I recently heard a speaker say that we should strive for life balance that includes work. My story has been rich with many non-work experiences. But my work and my businesses remain an important part of who I am and what I believe in.

I have created four businesses, all of which are still in existence. Three are still owned by me. I am working on a fifth business idea, not counting this venture.

Many of you will know me through Rowing The World and Rowing The World USA. We offer exceptional rowing trips in many countries for international rowers. Most of our trips are small groups, but during the COVID-19 pandemic we expanded to offer Independent Rowing Experiences and Hybrid Explorers.

Marr Consulting was first incorporated in 1990. A M.Sc. in Plant Ecology started a consulting career in environmental issues but soon expanded to include active transportation, public engagement and later tourism. More recently, business consulting projects are a focus, an exciting new direction that weaves together so many elements of my skills and experiences.

1990 was also the year that Randonnée Tours was launched. For 15 years I owned and operated North America’s premier self-guided cycling and walking tour company. What an amazing journey that was. And it continues, with my current businesses and The Thoughtful Rower.
